Moyes told Sky Sports News: "Yes we have made an enquiry for Nicky Butt. But whether that happens, particularly in the transfer window, I would be a little bit surprised. "Everybody knows I am always looking out for good players and hopefully Nicky Butt would be interested in coming to Everton."
Blues are reported to have held talks with United chiefs about a possible £5 million deal to bring Butt to St. Andrews but they only have until this saturday, 31st January (when the transfer window closes) to try and lure the player away from Old Trafford.
Along with Blues and Everton, Middlebrough and Tottenham are also reported to be keeping tabs on developments.
