Ex Keeper Passes Away

Schofield passed away on Wednesday night.

Johnny Schofield was born in Atherstone in February 1931 and signed professional terms with the Blues in 1950.

He made his debut against Bury in October 1952 and went on to make 237 appearances for the club before departing for Wrexham during the 1965-66 season.

In August 1968 he joined his hometown club Atherstone United as player - manager.

He had spells with Bromsgrove and Tamworth thereafter before returning to Atherstone as manager for two years.

After quitting the game Schofield became an off-license proprietor but remained a regular supporter at St Andrew's.
