Bass made more than 80 appearances for Blues having joined the club as a trainee in 1994 but in July 2001 moved onto Hartlepool United on a free transfer.

However, after two-and-a-half years with 'Pool the 28-year-old right back had his contract terminated by mutual consent earlier this week having failed to secure a regular place in the promoted clubs side this season.

Now Bass is hoping to secure a contract at Pahang FA in Malaysia.

"I was not even getting a game in the reserves so I thought that it was time to move on," Bass told the Hartlepool Mail.

"I had no plans but I thought if I got a lump sum then I could look to possibly invest it and secure my future.

"On Monday my agent rang me up and said 'do you fancy playing abroad?', I said 'of course' and he told me a club in Malaysia were interested and that they wanted me to go out there on trial - in two days time!

"If it goes well I will be back for a week to collect my stuff. I am going out there to focus on getting a deal but if it does not work out, then it will have been an adventure."

Dear Jon,
We can recommend the Rennaisance Hotel in Kuala Lumpar and the 50p curries at the Batu Caves!
