The 27-year-old Blues centre-back, who labelled match referee Martin Atkinson a 'disgrace after the defeat at Villa Park, was fined £7,500 and warned about his future conduct but escaped any match suspensions.

Atkinson adjudged that Johnson had fouled Gabriel Agbonlahor 82 minutes into the local derby and James Milner scored from the resulting spot-kick to give Villa a 1-0 win on 25th April.

"The referee was a disgrace. He's ruined the match and clearly shouldn't be doing these kind of games - it was too big for him," Johnson told the media after the match.

"I got the ball cleanly, everyone could see that, and the ref can't make a decision if he's not sure. The rules say if you're not sure, you don't give a penalty."
