Fans to fly the flag for Cisse

Last updated : 16 October 2002 By Brian Cartlidge
A reported, nine members of Cisse's family were caught up in the ferry disaster that led to the death of hundred's of people on September 26th and Cisse flew back to Senegal to pay his respects - but not until after he appeared in the Blues side that defeated West Ham days after the tragedy.

The mere fact that he made an appearance at Upton Park has touched the hearts of many Blues fans and Cisse has been swamped by messages of sympathy and support from the club's supporters.

He has rejected suggestions that a minute's silence should be held before the home game against Manchester City on October 26th, but says he doesn't object to fans bringing along Senegal flags instead.

Blues managing director Karren Brady said on the club's official website: "We would like to thank all those supporters who sent the club e-mails and cards for Aliou.

"These were passed onto him and he has asked us to express his gratitude for the kindness that has been shown towards him."

A condolence message board is now up & running so please pay your respects and post your messages of support to Aliou .. CLICK HERE
