The Blues midfielder, who had already been shown a yellow card by referee Mike Dean for a foul in the first half of the game at St Andrews on Sunday afternoon, was dismissed for a second bookable offence for needlessly handling City defender Pablo Zabaleta's injury-time throw-in.
Ferguson will now face an automatic one game suspension and so will miss Blues' trip to Anfield on Monday, 9th November.
