Gold Cautious On New Signings

Last updated : 12 January 2004 By Brian Cartlidge

Manager Steve Bruce has reluctantly had to look at bringing in a few new faces to the club because of a growing injury list although Gold emphasised that the injuries are not as bad as this time last year and are not really long-term as was the case last January when Blues were the biggest spenders in the transfer window.

"We wait for Steve's judgement," the Blues chairman told Sky Sports News.

"Our injuries this time aren't very lengthy ones. We'll have players coming back next week and the week after. Its true that Matthew (Upson) will probably be out the longest but he's young and he's a quick healer so he could be back sooner than the expected eight weeks. Maybe he'll be back in five or six weeks.

"I think you can be pressurised by the fans, but I think the key is to stay calm. If you're out looking to buy thats when and where you make mistakes.

"I think its a question of saying we understand that a quality player is available and that you pursue that player. I think that's the wisdom."
