The French forward as been troubled all season with a knee injury he picked up in the pre-season tour of Malaysia and despite surgery and a coarse of injections the knee flared up again in the recent local derby game against the Villa.

Dugs went over to France last week to rest the injury in the hope that he won't need further surgery and newspaper stories were suggesting that he is to have his contract at Blues paid-up 18 months before it is due to expire.

"I don't know where the stories that he definitely won't play again for us are coming from," Gold has said.

"The optimist in me says that Christophe will turn up this week and say he is feeling fit again and can play for Blues once more.

"I maintain that we are not talking about a player who does not care about Birmingham City.

"We saw how involved he was last season when he was with the team when we managed to stay in the Premiership."
