Gold upset at Wales FA decision

Blues had hoped the Wales FA would push back their deadline for players to report for international duty ahead of their European Championship qualifier with Azerbaijan on November 20th.

But it appears the FAW have taken an even sterner line and are now insisting that Savage must report to team headquarters at 6pm on the Saturday, completely ruling out any chance of the Blues midfielder playing in the Premiership clash with Fulham on Sunday, November 17th.

Gold said: "I just wish that Mark Hughes could have been a bit more conciliatory and made something of a concession.

"Life is all about making compromises and maybe one day Mark will need a favour off Birmingham City, or Steve Bruce, or Robbie Savage.

"You are only talking about a few hours. It's not like you are going to have a training session and play a seven-a-side game where there is the risk of someone getting injured.

"The joining up will be mainly about the comradeship side of things and Robbie Savage is already totally motivated for his country and for Birmingham City.

"We have also been affected by things that are out of our control. If we had not moved the game because of Fulham's UEFA Cup commitments, there would not have been a problem. We have been penalised.

"Manchester United will not have Ryan Giggs but the effect missing Robbie Savage will have on us is 10 times more because we don't have the size and depth of squad that United have got with all their class players. It will leave us skinny on the ground."
