Grainger injury set-back

Early reports suggested that Grainger, making his comeback after a long term injury, had come through unscathed from the friendly at Damson Park.

Even Grainger himself commented: "I was pleased to get through it last night, I thought I distributed the ball quite well and my fitness wasn't too bad."

However, Blues boss Steve Bruce has declared the left-back has a hamstring injury and could be sidelined for at least four weeks.

"Martin looks as though he has done a hamstring - it is a tragedy for the lad," said Bruce.

"He was really, really sore towards the end of the game and he thought it was just tiredness. But the physios have seen him this morning and it looks to be bad news. I would expect him to be out for at least a month.

"He stretched for the ball during the last ten minutes of the game and he has done a hamstring.

"This is another knock-back for the lad but I have got no doubts about his mental strength and he will come back because he is a tough character.

"But it is a blow for us and we certainly didn't need it."

The two other returning defenders, Steve Vickers and Michael Johnson, seem to have come through the friendly unscathed.

"They were a little bit ring rusty, as you would expect, but they came through the game without any problems," the Blues boss said.

"Now they just need as many games as possible under their belt. They are a bit away from making a first team return, that's for sure."
