Twenty-eight-year-old Hughes turned down the offer of a new three year deal at St Andrew's and became a free agent at midnight on June 30th and so joins Alan Curbishley's side on a Bosman-free transfer on a three year contract.
Hughes moved to St Andrew's for £800,000 from Wrexham in March 1997 and made more than 200 appearances for the Blues during his seven year stay at the club.
