Blues keeper Maik Taylor played the first 45 minutes of Northern Irelands friendly match against Hungary in Belfast and kept the score at 0-0 before being replaced at the break by debutant Jonathan Tuffey.

Goals from Sandor Torghelle on 57 minutes and Zoltan Gera on 71 minutes earned Hungary a 2-0 win at Windsor Park.

Blues striker James McFadden was in acttion for Scotland against Diego Maradona's Argentina at Hampden Park.

McFadden played for the first 68 minutes but could do nothing to stop Scotland falling to defeat to the South Americans who won the friendly international 1-0 courtesy of an 8th minute goal from Maxi Rodríguez.

In Amsterdam, Blues midfielder Seb Larsson was in the Sweden squad for the away friendly against Holland.

Larsson played for almost all of the second period having replaced Christian Wilhelmsson on 52 minutes.

The Dutch won the game 3-1 courtesy of two goals from Arsenal striker Robin van Persie (33mins and 50 mins) and another from Dirk Kuyt in the final minute. Kim Kallstrom scored the Swede's goal in the 51st minute.

Blues on-loan winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie was in the Ghana squad that played out a 0-0 friendly draw against visitors Tunisia in Accra.
