Manager Steve Bruce has had to name 19-year-old rookie 'keeper Colin Doyle in his 20 man squad for the FA Premier League Asia Cup, which begins next week, because he has been unable to sign a new keeper in time to travel with the squad.

“We will be leaving matters in the capable hands of our managing director while we are in Malaysia,” Bruce told the Birmingham Mail.

“Karren Brady was going to come out with us but now she will stay behind and, I’m sure, be working round the clock.

“It’s of paramount importance that we sign a goalkeeper and I’m confident we will but there’s no need to panic at this stage. We have to get the right one in.

“In the meantime, the big lad (Doyle) will come away to Malaysia and I’m sure it will be a fantastic experience for him.”
