Kenna earns an international call-up after almost three years in the wilderness.

The Blues' stand-in skipper won the last of his 27 international caps to date against Turkey in Bursa.

"In my early days as manager Jeff did a great job for Ireland and was always in the squad. He had some problems with Achilles injuries but I'm delighted to have him back," said Ireland's manager Mick McCarthy.

Kenna joins Blues team mates Kenny Cunningham, the national team's captain, and Clinton Morrison in the Irish party.

The Republic of Ireland's Euro 2004 qualifier against Switzerland takes place at Lansdowne Road, Dublin on Wednesday, October 16th.
