Marriotts release increases new keeper speculation

Marriott was signed by Bruce from Barnsley until the end of last season after regular keeper Nico Vaesen was injured during the second local derby victory over Aston Villa in March left the Blues boss with just one professional keeper, Ian Bennett, on the books at St. Andrew's.

However, Marriott made just one start for Blues in the 2-1 away defeat at Tottenham and the former Wales international has been released by the club.

Bruce then must surely have a new keeper lined up as his intentions are to start the new season with three keepers. After the release of Marriott along with young Australian keeper Clint Davies the Blues boss is left with just one fit number one in Benno, as Vaesen is not expected to be back in action until September at the earliest.

Blues have been linked with Thomas Sorensen at Sunderland and Manchester United's Roy Carroll, among others, during the close-season.
