Blues boss Steve Bruce, who signed France international striker Christophe Dugarry on Thursday, is hoping to tempt Bowyer with a deal to join Blues until the end of the season with the possibility of negotiating a permanent move if and when Blues stayed in the Premiership.

Blues are believed to be willing to pay £750,000 to Leeds United to bring Bowyer to St. Andrew's until the end of the season and are not frightened off by the players estimated £30,000 a week salary.

In an official statement on the Blues website the club said: "In relation to Bowyer the club can further confirm that lots of work needs to be done before any deal is finalised.”
