Mike Riley In The Middle For Villa Game

Last updated : 17 March 2005 By Brian Cartlidge

Blues have already had the pleasure of Mike Riley refereeing one of their league games this season whilst the West Yorkshire official has taken charge of three of Villa's Premier League games.

Mike Riley's last game in charge of a Blues fixture came in the 4-0 win against West Brom at St Andrew's on 18th December 2004. No Blues players were booked that day.

Villa's last game with Mike Riley in charge was for their 3-0 home win against Norwich City on 15th January. No player from either side was booked on that occasion.

Prior to the game against Norwich, Mike Riley had taken charge of Villa's 2-0 away defeat to Manchester City in November when Mark Delaney was booked and Lee Hendrie got his marching orders after an altercation with City defender Danny Mills.

Mr Riley had also taken charge of Villa's 4-2 home win against Newcastle United back in September. Lloyd Samuel, Thomas Sorensen and Lee Hendrie all being booked on that occasion.

In total Mike Riley has taken charge of 21 Premier League matches so far this season in which he has handed out 59 yellow cards and 7 reds.

If Mr Riley needs any spare red cards I believe Villa fans have a few going spare!!

Mr M Cairns and Mr R W Martin will be Mike Rileys assistants for the game at St Andrew's on Sunday lunchtime.
