Carter was part of the England Under 21 squad that lost to Holland's Under 21's in Derby but didn't gain his first start for Peter Taylor's side. The Blues midfielder was one of four unused substitutes in the 2-1 defeat at Pride Park. Bristol City striker Leroy Lita coming off the bench to score what proved to be just a consolation goal for England in the 88th minute.

Better news however for another Blues youngster. Neil Kilkenny, who is currently on a season long loan deal at Coca Cola League One side Oldham Athletic, played for the first 65 minutes in the England Under 20's international friendly win against Russia at The Valley. John Peacock's young Lions side running out 2-0 winners at Charlton courtesy of goals from Chinedum Onuoha (Man City) and Lloyd Sam (Charlton).
