However, McLeish has revealed that Tainio is fit enough to be named amongst his squad for the first Birmingham derby of the season at St Andrews on Sunday lunchtime.
"Teemu's back and I saw him this morning," confirmed McLeish.
"He didn't play midweek because he got kicked at the weekend.
"He had a scan on Monday and it was clear, but it was decided against playing him during the week and he's turned up for training today.
"With the shortage of numbers he'll be in the squad."
