The Blues boss revealed after the 0-0 draw at The Valley that O'Connor had picked up a virus earlier in the week and had not recovered in time for the trip to South London.
McLeish, however, is hopeful that the Scotland international striker will have recovered in time for Blues' home game against Plymouth Argyle on Easter Monday.
