Penalty taking fiasco

The procedure seemed to have been rectified earlier this week when Robbie Savage outlined what had been decided should one player miss: “The rule was when Dunny misses I take them and when I miss, Mikael wants to take them," Savage told the Birmingham Post earlier this week.

The debate goes back to pre-season when Blues were awarded a penalty at Burton Albion and David Dunn insisted on taking it and from then on he has been the regular taker.

However, follwing Dunnies two misses at Newcastle and then at Leeds, Savage took over the duty once again, scoring with the retake at Elland Road.

Then comes Blackpool and another spot-kick awarded. Savage was rested for the game at Bloomfield Road, so, Forssells turn? Wrong! Stephen Clemence decides its his turn to get in on the act and duly blazes the spot-kick over the bar and Blues are out of the Carling Cup.

Surely now, with the possibility of a money spinning third round tie gone, its time to put an end to all this with the manager deciding which player is the penalty taker before the kick-off, no squabbling between players, just stick to it.

I put a poll on this site earlier this week regarding who you think should take the penalties - seems I may have missed one or ten off that list!!
