Powell says 'no' to Reggae Boyz

Midfielder Powell has chosen to put club-before-country knowing he could make his first Premiership start for Blues against WBA next week in place of the suspended Aliou Cisse.

The flight to Japan is 15 hours and Powell has spoken to the Jamaican coach explaining that he feels the timing of the game, just days before the West Brom clash, is all wrong for him to take part.

Powell is only on a short-term contract with Blues and realises, that to secure a permanent contract with the club, he needs to be playing games and with the suspension of Cisse for next Saturdays game at The Hawthorns he has an ideal opputunity to show boss Steve Bruce what he can do on the pitch.

"This is now my seventh season in the Premiership and I think people know what I'm about by now," he said.

"If I get in, I will expect to perform well enough to stay in."
