Savage a doubt for Wales

Savage picked up the injury after colliding with Fulham keeper Edwin van der Sar midway through the second half of the 0-0 daw at St. Andrew's on Sunday.

"We checked Savage out with our doctor and physios who think that if we had a game on Wednesday - or even next Saturday - then he would be struggling to play," said Blues manager Steve Bruce.

"He's going down to Wales to be checked out by their doctors but I think it would be absolutely ridiculous for him to make an eight-hour flight given the kind of injury he has got."

"After all the carry-on we have had with this particular issue, I want to stress that the injury is genuine. There is no way that I would take Robbie off with 15 minutes to go if his legs were okay.

"He is very sore and you can see he was limping around the pitch so I had no alternative but Wales are quite welcome to inspect him themselves."

Wales' manager Mark Hughes had been involved in a bitter battle with Blues in a bid to prevent Savage from playing by trying to invoke the FIFA four-day rule and only a last-ditch appeal to FIFA delayed Savage's departure to join the Wales squad long enough for him to turn out against Fulham at St Andrews on Sunday.
