Savage Saga Lingers On

Today the stories surround the will he/won't he be leaving Blues when the transfer window opens in January... AGAIN!

It seems not a day goes by without this story cropping up and its been that way ever since the summer.

I thought all this would be in the past after the enigmatic midfielder signed a new three-year contract back in the close season after his boyhood heroes Everton had made a bid which was flatly turned down by the Blues board. Quite the contrary I'm afraid!

With Savages' former Wales international manager Mark Hughes taking over at Blackburn Rovers and installing former Blues coach Mark Bowen as his assistant at Ewood Park to boot, we are now having to suffer the same stories all over again. 'Savage off to Blackburn' and its becoming tedious.

Before last weekend's derby clash against Villa, in which Savage excelled for probably the first time this season, fans seemed fairly divided on whether selling him would do much harm to a Blues side who's season can only be described as being mediocre so far results wise.

Following the result at Villa Park however fans now see what effect Savage can have on the side's performances when he plays as he did on Sunday.

But, just two days after the 2-1 win over our arch rivals, with many naming Savage as their man-of-the-match, the stories are back again about a possible move to either Lancashire or Merseyside

Manager Steve Bruce has said today that he doesn't want Savage to leave but also that he doesn't want anyone at the club that doesn't really want to play for us and that he wouldn't stand in their way should they want to leave.

Cue the 'I'm contracted to this club and until that changes I'll be giving my all' quotes to start appearing soon which really won't do anything to answer the real question - going or staying?

Quite why Savage would want to enter a relegation dogfight with a side in freefall like Blackburn in preference to staying at St Andrew's beggars belief but surely Everton haven't lost interest in such a short space of time?

We'll just have to wait and see I suppose, and in the meantime put up with the rumours, until the transfer window opens in the new year.
