Sell Upson - No Chance

Can you seriously see Steve Bruce accepting any offer for Matty Upson come the opening of the transfer window in the New Year? NO CHANCE!

Since joining the club from Arsenal for just £1.5 million in January last year Upson has formed a formidable partnership with Kenny Cunningham at the heart of the Blues defence. Can you see Bruce wanting to break-up a partnership that is part of a back-four that can boast the third best defensive record in the Premiership so far this season?

Bruce has said in the past that he rates the 25-year-old as one of the best left-sided centre-backs in the country and as testimony to this Upson has gained six full caps for England during his 21 months at Blues. What would it cost then to replace him?

Even if Bruce did have a replacement lined up for Upson, which there has been no indication of, then that player would take time to settle into the side, lots of goals could be conceded and we find ourselves in a relegation battle.

Every player has his price, I accept that, but to even contemplate a Premiership club struggling to score goals, outlining the importance not to concede many, selling one of their first choice centre-backs halfway through a season, well, you couldn't make it up!
