Stern a major doubt

Although the knee injury he picked up in last weeks Premiership clash with Fulham is not as bad as first feared, the Blues top scorer has hardly trained all week and is considered extremely doubtful for the trip to Sunderland.

"It was the same knee that had a serious injury a few years ago, but the scans came back clear," said Blues boss Steve Bruce.

"Stern has not trained for most of the week and when he did it left the knee sore."

Bruce will delay naming his side until the last minute but with John struggling and Geoff Horsfield beginning a 3 match suspension, youngster Craig Fagan may get his Blues debut in attack.
