Stern has knee operation

John has been playing with the injury for the past few weeks, but with fellow striker Geoff Horsfield now available for selection again after his three game suspension, the Trinidad and Tobago striker has undergone the operation.

"Stern's had a bad knee for a while and it blew up after the Southampton game," said manager Steve Bruce. He's gone in for an operation and he will be out for two to three weeks.

"It's a blow for us and Stern's done well just to get out there and play recently."
