Blues have already had the pleasure of Steve Bennett refereeing one of their league games this season whilst the Orpington-based official is yet to referee a Pompey league game although he has taken charge of a couple of their Cup fixtures.

The last Blues game that Steve Bennett refereed was in the 2-0 win against Middlesbrough at St Andrew's back on 26th December, David Dunn the only Blues player booked on that day.

The last time that Steve Bennett refereed a Portsmouth game was for their FA Cup 4th Round tie against Southampton on 29th January. Diomansy Kamara was sent-off for two bookable offences on that day whilst former Blues midfielder Aliou Cisse, Arjan De Zeeuw, Richard Hughes and Dejan Stefanovic all received a yellow card in Pompey's 2-1 defeat at St Mary's.

Ironically, Steve Bennett took charge of the Blues v Portsmouth fixture last season too. Aliou Cisse the only Blues player booked whilst Pompey's Amde Faye, Teddie Sheringham and Tim Sherwood all received yellow cards in a 2-0 win for Blues at St Andrew's on that day.

In total Steve Bennett has taken charge of 21 Premier League games so far this season and handed out a massive 75 yellow cards and 3 reds.

Mr R Burton and Mr T Massey will be Steve Bennett's assistants for the game at St Andrew's on Saturday evening.
