Styles In The Middle For Newcastle Clash

Last updated : 29 January 2004 By Brian Cartlidge

Styles has refereed two of Blues fixtures so far this season the first of which was the opening game of the season against Tottenham at St. Andrews when David Dunn, Robbie Savage and Stephen Clemence were shown yellow cards.

The last Blues fixture the Hampshire official refereed was the away game against Everton at Goodison Park at the end of December when, quite remarkably for Mr. Styles, no player from either side was cautioned.

Mr Styles will also be remembered by Blues fans for the sending off of Blues skipper Kenny Cunningham during the first game of the pre-season Malaysia Cup tournament against Newcastle in Kuala Lumpar.

Newcastle fans will remember Mr. Styles' last game in charge of one of their league games, Lauren Robert seeing red in their game against Everton in September.

In total Styles as officiated in ten Premier League games this season booking 42 players and sending off 7, the last of these being Ashley Cole for a horror tackle on Ben Thatcher in Arsenals game at Leicester City on 6th December.
