Survival costs Blues

Both Matthew Upson and Clinton Morrison were signed by Blues on contracts which saw a down payment and then more to their respective clubs once Blues Premiership status for next season was secured.

If my memory serves me right Upson was bought from Arsenal for an estimated one-and-a-half million pounds rising to three million based on Premiership survival and appearances.

The deal to bring Morrison to St. Andrew's was also based on the same kind of contract with Blues paying Crystal Palace a down payment of £3million - plus striker Andrew Johnson moving to Selhurst Park as part of the deal and being valued at £750,000 and then a final installment of £500,000 should Blues survive in the top-flight - which of course they have now all-but achieved.
