The Blues centre-back had been named in England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson's 24-man squad for the game at Villa Park on Saturday evening but has withdrawn with a hamstring injury and his place taken by Manchester United defender Wes Brown.
Upson missed Blues' 2-0 defeat against the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Saturday having sustained the injury during training.
