The England international centre-back was controversially dismissed by retiring referee David Elleray for allegedly felling Magpies striker Craig Bellamy during the first half of the Premiership clash at St. James's Park.

The Harrow official deemed Upson to be the last man when bringing down Bellamy and sent off the Blues defender.

Blues appealed the decision but the FA's disciplinary committee backed Elleray's decision and as a result, Upson will sit-out Blues' first Premiership game next season.
