Vickers new injury blow

Last updated : 22 October 2002 By Brian Cartlidge

Vickers was replaced in the dying minutes of the local derby at The Hawthorns and x-rays have confirmed the broken rib.

"It is very frustrating to say the least," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"I felt something after I had been into a challenge with Sean Gregan and was then in a little bit of pain over the weekend.

"The X-rays have confirmed what we feared, that it is a break. It's impossible to say how long I'll be out for but it will be a matter of weeks.

"I suffered the same injury when I was at Middlesbrough, in a collision with Kevin Francis, and was out for six to eight weeks on that occasion."
