Blues have not given up hope of signing the Newcastle United midfielder, who reportedly ruled out a move to St Andrew's last week following a fans petition against his signature.
However, according to The Sun, David O'Leary is said to be interested in the 28-year-old midfielder who played under the Villa boss during their time together at Leeds United.
