Benson said: "It was a gritty performance and in fairness I don't think either side can say they deserved to win it.
"There were only a few chances but I thought both goalkeepers were magnificent.
"One goal was always going to win it but I think a draw was a fair result.
"It was difficult to come here under the circumstances with a hostile crowd. We came here to win but also not to lose and Steve's very pleased to have come away with the point."
