The Blues party flew out from Manchester airport on Sunday to take part in the only football competition sanctioned by the F.A. Premier League outside of England and Gold is adamant that Blues are going there to win the trophy.

"We are going to a serious competition with a view to winning it," said Gold.

"I think we might surprise a few people even though we will be considered as the outsiders.

"Newcastle and Chelsea will be the favourites to get to the final. But I think that we could pull off a shock.

"This is a very exciting time to be going out to a new market where they take their football very seriously.

"These people are so crazy about their football they could just take Birmingham to their hearts.

"I believe that it will raise the profile of the club to a higher level and will help us to establish ourselves as a Premiership club."

Blues kick-off the competition against Newcastle at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil Complex, Kuala Lumpur on Thursday with Chelsea taking on the Malaysian national side the day after.
