Blues v Chelsea Prediction

Last updated : 17 August 2004 By Leigh Whitehouse

The thought of Chelsea coming to St Andrews is on one hand rather scary and on the other…very exciting.

Chelsea’s great result against Man United showed that the team had most certainly bonded quite quickly, the Chelsea performance was better than expected - with lots of new faces in the squad it seemed like a challenge, but Man United had a number of quality players out, such as Ronaldo (who is an ambassador for his country competing in the 2004 Olympics in Athens.) It appeared last weekend that Man United aren’t the side they used to be (well, while most of their top players are out anyway!)

Blues had a rather good start to the season though…at the very difficult Fratton Park, we had new faces making their debuts and getting to know how each other play.

OK, some people may say we should have beat them 3-0, but it is a great improvement on last season…as I’m sure you can remember we lost 4-1 with a rather embarrassing display - it must be said.

But overall Blues played some nice football, and scored a great free kick, thanks to Robbie.

Heskey looked special with his pace and strength - hopefully he can do the same this week at St. A’s but with a goal or two or three…

Blues will find it difficult to break Chelsea down on Saturday purely because of the sheer quality of their players…although, Jesper and Mario will be wanting to make a huge impression, and with the distinctive St. A's crowd ready to start another successful season (touch wood) with our usual great support I think Blues could nick it.

It will be very narrow…but I think this week Blues are going to show what they are really made of, and prove the great ambition of the club – not just by the known fact of the players that were brought in over the summer, but by the score at the end of the match against a world class club, that is currently getting hugely bigger every season.

It’s a great shame that the FORS won’t be playing but I’m sure Clint will do just as good job, and try to hold on to a first team place with an impressive display (and maybe a couple of goals? Yes please Clint!)

For Blues first game of the season at St. A’s I’m going to go with a home win (2-1) The crowd will get Blues there!
