Rate The Ref v Leeds - Mark Halsey

Last updated : 09 August 2004 By Kwacky

The last report on Halsey criticised his inability to deal with advantageous play. This week, he appeared (for most of the time) to be getting it right, calling back play when the advantage ran out and let things carry on when advantage was available.

But, in true Homeresque fashion, the new knowledge forced out some old stuff, like holding onto players. Either that or the rules have changed and no one has told the fans. The Leeds back four were able to elbow, trip and hold back any Blues player with the ball. Lazaridis was shoved from behind as he ran into the area with the ball at his feet, Morrison was held back as he went for a loose ball (again in the box) and DJ was tripped. Lazaridis had the majority of attention but Halsey either didn’t see it or indicated that the defender got the ball. A bit difficult when the ball is 5 feet in front of the player and he goes down. Halsey also managed to miss a most blatant handball. It was third time lucky before Blues were awarded a penalty for a shove on Morrison.

This wasn’t a physical game but the lack of bookings is of some concern. It’s all well and good to have a quiet word with a player but those who persistently foul or kick the ball away when a free kick is given against should all go in the book.

Overall a poor performance.

Booked: Domi (Leeds).
