Rate The Ref Vs Everton - Rob Styles

Last updated : 14 November 2004 By Kwacky

Styles is one of those refs who seems to think the biggest name on the pitch is him. Everyone has heard of Rob Styles and that's the way he likes it. With Savage on the pitch and an Everton midfield full of graft rather than guile, cards were expected.

Kilbane was the first to find himself in the book for a tackle on Melchiot. However, Styles seemed content to allow a physical element of the game and no other player got booked, despite the number of free kicks being awarded.

There was a call for a penalty in the first half when Heskey appeared to be trapped by 2 Everton defenders, but a spot kick would have been a harsh punishment.

Birmingham found themselves reduced to 10 men with the sending-off of Muzzy Izzet. Izzet made a magnificent save, blocking Carsley's long range effort on the line. Izzet was instantly red-carded by Rob Styles and can have no complaints. Maybe he thought he could chance his luck 2 games in a row?

Not a bad performance - play was usually waved on where advantage was there but Styles is never one to bring play back.

Ref rating: 7/10

Sent Off: Izzet (68)

Booked: Kilbane.(17)
