Whilst there's no doubt that Arsenal struggled to get out of second gear, Blues still stuck to their task well to earn the result - let's face it, Arsenal have played in second gear and still steamrollered teams this season.

Blues suffered a setback in the build up to the game, with the news that 'new signing' and leading scorer Mikael Forssell would miss the game due to injury. Every cloud has a silver lining, however, and Forssell's replacement was the fit again David Dunn - who played off lone striker Clinton Morrison. Maik Taylor's suspension led to Ian Bennett returning to the side, whilst Olivier Tebily also returned at the expense of Martin Taylor who dropped to the bench.

Obviously, against an Arsenal side who haven't lost all season in the league, this was a fantastic result. It was not a fantastic game, however, with neither Bennett nor Jens Lehmann having to make a save of note. In the first half, Jose Antonio Reyes had a couple of half chances that went wide. At the other end, Dunn threatened, and Robbie Savage hit the wall with a free-kick.

In the second half, Arsenal toiled but had few decent chances, whilst Blues perhaps had the best chance of the match. Stan Lazaridis outpaced Lauren (no mean feat) and pulled the ball back superbly to Morrison who had time to control the ball and place it past Lehmann. I'll leave it at saying that he cocked it up. Clemence forced Lehmann into a sprawling save too, which I had forgotten about above when I said neither 'keeper had a save to make... oops.

In truth, that was about that in terms of the match. Blues defended desperately for the point, and Arsenal just didn't really perform. One major plus for Blues was the return of Dunn, and more importantly, his excellent performance. Whilst not wishing to criticise, the likes of Jamie Clapham and Damien Johnson worked hard, but looked scared to death on the ball, and keener to pass the buck onto someone else. Dunn though, played as if it was a knock-about in the park with his mates, and took the game to Arsenal - even enjoying a personal dual with Patrick Vieira, who objected to a few of Dunn's challenges and tricks. Seeing Dunn today made you realise how much Blues have missed him, and if he can get a full season under his belt next year, it'll be like another new signing.

Another excellent performance was that of Bennett in goal. It can't have been easy just to come back into the side at the home of the Champions, but he did it well. Whilst not making any real saves, his handling, kicking and command of his area was all spot on, and he deserves credit for that.

So, after all that, not much to talk about. A fair point between the two sides - one of whom had eased off the gas, and the other that were happy to take a point. A non-event of a game, really, but an excellent result for Blues.
