Liverpool Res 2 - Blues Res 0

Polish international Piotr Swierczewski's first game in a Blues shirt ended in defeat at a freezing cold and windy Deva Stadium.

The first half saw very few chances created by either side - the highlight being a spectacular save by Nico Vaesen from Hammans 25 yard shot in stoppage time.

The second period seemed to be following the same pattern until Liverpool youngster Neil Mellor scored twice in 15 minutes for the Reds.

Mellor opened the scoring just after the hour mark - shooting beyond the reach of Vaesen into the corner of the net.

Mellor added his and Liverpool's second goal on 75 minutes - running on to a through ball and producing a finish that gave Blues keeper Vaesen no chance.
