The Magpies had much the better of the opening quarter of an hour and kept Ian Bennett busy in the Blues goal.

The home side finally got the breakthrough they deserved on the half-hour mark when Martin Brittain beat Benno with a low shot from just inside the box.

The Magpies doubled their lead three minutes before the break through Matthew Pattison.

With just eleven minutes of the second half gone Newcastle wrapped up the game with a third goal from Carl Finnigan who beat Bennett with ease after good work down the flank from Brittain.

Blues grabbed a consolation goal with ten minutes of play remaining when Carl Motteram headed home a right wing cross from Matthew Birley to bring the score back to 3-1.
