Player Ratings v Bolton Wanderers

Last updated : 09 August 2004 By Brian Cartlidge

Maik Taylor - One world class save from Simon Charlton with the score at 2-0 made it a comfortable last quarter of an hour for Blues. That apart little to do.

Tebily - The inevitable lapses of concentration were evident again but overall a steady showing.

Cunningham - The governor at the heart of the Blues defence again though to be fair Bolton were pretty mediocre in the final third of the pitch.

Tiny Taylor - Good distribution again and easily won the aerial battle with Kevin Davies. Fans seem to be taking to him quick too, which always helps.

Upson - Little threat from Bolton down the right flank made it a comfortable afternoon for the England centre-back.

Johnson - His usual industrious self. Overall a steady performance, capped-off with a sublime cross for Hughes to head home Blues' 2nd goal.

Savage - Okocha being subbed explains everything - he never gave him a minutes peace. At the heart of everything Blues did well and was unlucky to be booked late on.

Clemence - Seems to be getting back to how he was before his injury. Frandsen hardly had a kick and that was down to him.

Hughes - Started slowly but grew in confidence as the game went on. Tackling back was good in the second half. His best showing for a few weeks without a doubt capped with a well deserved goal.

Forssell - Quiet but once again on the scoreshhet and thats what he's there for.

Morrison - Ditto the last four/five games. Worked his socks off but missed good chances in front of goal which at this level have to be converted.

SUBS:

Cisse, John & Kenna - All given a run-out late on with the result never in any doubt.

Subs not used: Bennett, Purse.
