Player Ratings v Leeds Utd

Last updated : 09 August 2004 By Richards Barker

Maik Taylor - Hesitant off his line, poor kicking, and not the best way to celebrate his permanent deal.

Martin Taylor - Good going forward and has that happy defensive knack of getting things away from danger well using his long legs and gangly frame.

Grainger - Much more comfortable defensively than at The Riverside, and more good set-pices. A decent display.

Cunningham - Not entirely comfortable, but much better. Timing of tackles and interceptions and general reading of the game seemed to be returning.

Upson - Better than last week, but still not good enough. The only person harming his Euro 2004 hopes at the moment is himself.

Johnson - Usual self really, worked hard, defended well, and was more than adequate going forward. Good performance given injury.

Lazaridis - Didn't get much service as Blues played more long balls, but got involved when he could and played his part in two goals.

Clemence - Started superbly but faded to the point of being awful in the closing stages - though fatigue could explain why, given that he is currently doing the 'Robbie Savage shift'

Hughes - Excellent performance capped off by two goals, and acted superbly given the obvious disappointment of not being given the opportunity for his hat-trick from the spot.

Morrison - Worked hard and played his part in two goals, but I can't help thinking that he just lacks that 'something' which turns a hard-working player into a Premiership player.

Forssell - Bumped up his valuation yet again, despite an average all-round performance. When you can Finnish (pun fully intended) like he can though, it doesn't matter. Also behaved impeccably in the penalty fiasco.
