Player Ratings v Man Utd

Last updated : 09 August 2004 By Brian Cartlidge

Maik Taylor - A couple of the usual poor kicks that we have now come to expect but overall a sound performance. Not at fault for either of the goals.

Martin Taylor - Very few mistakes and overall a steady performance

Cunningham - Did well against the threat of Saha in the first half but has to be questioned as to his jump for the United strikers winner.

Upson - Immense throughout. Looked back to his best

Lazaridis - Didn't play long enough to warrant a threat to United. He'll be missed in the final run-in.

Johnson - His usual workmanlike self and improved as the game went on.

Savage
- Put himself about as usual but tired visibly in the last half-hour. Maybe the twisted ankle had something to do with that.

Clemence - Not at his best. Missed a good goalscoring opportunity in the first half and passing was woeful.

Hughes - Good performance again. Always a threat going forward and linked well with the front two.

Forssell - Held the line well. Persevered throughout though clear-cut goalscoring opportunities didn't come his way.

Morrison - Worked hard again and linked well with Forssell but I still can't help feeling that there's something missing from his game.

Subs:

Grainger - Defensively just didn't seem at the races after his introduction but scored with a great free-kick. Recurrence of knee injury must be worrying now.

Clapham - Did well apart from one lapse for United's equaliser. You have to play to the whistle.

John - Hardly involved.

Subs not used: Bennett, Tebily.
