Bruce's View: Portsmouth

"It was a vital win for us but it was no coincidence that the big players were back in the team," the Blues boss said after the game at St Andrew's.

"The addition of Chris Sutton to the side proved vital on the day and after training with him for the last fortnight it can be appreciated why he has cost millions of pounds in the past.

"Gordon Strachan rated him highly and I can see why after his two games for Birmingham. I feel it is a massive win and Forssell and Dunn both scoring means it was a very good day for us.

"Obviously, our survival depends upon our home form. It is going to be hard but we are hopeful. We do have the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea to come to St Andrew's so it is still going to be difficult.

"If everyone remains fit I am hopeful that we can get out of trouble."

Bruce once again gave praise to winger Jermaine Pennant: "Pennant looks a real, real talent and it is up to Jermaine how good he wants to be," he said.

"He has terrific skill and you do not see many people dancing past people.

"Jermaine is an old fashioned winger and he is great to watch."
