Blues found themselves a goal down inside three minutes, before two further goals meant Sebastian Larsson's penalty was nothing more than a consolation.
"It was a shocking start," the Blues boss said after the game at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
"We did the same thing here last season and gave ourselves a mountain to climb.
"But we hung in there and never gave up."
