Despite creating the better goalscoring opportunities in the second half of the game, Blues had to be content with just a point after Mauro Zarate came off the bench to equalise Joleon Lescott's 79th minute goal for the visitors.

"Mauro's goal could turn out to be very important," the Blues boss said after the 1-1 draw at St Andrews.

"The resilience and the effort that we put in was excellent.

"The draw was the least we deserved and really I thought we deserved to win it on our second half display.

"We are in a good position at the moment but as I have said the relegation battle will probably go down to the wire.

"Our rivals around about us, Bolton and Fulham, have secured two brilliant results so this point could prove to be very important."
