The Scotland international striker scored Blues' first two goals in the 3-1 win against the Owls at St Andrews making him joint top scorer at the club this season along with Kevin Phillips, who netted Blues' third goal against Wednesday.

"I don't think people realise what a decent player he is," the Blues boss said of O'Connor.

"He is the best finisher in the club during training and now he is showing it on the pitch for Birmingham after doing it at Hibs and in Moscow.

"Another pleasing feature is that he is now linking up well with Kevin Phillips."

On the match itself, the Blues boss thought that the first half performance had been the best that Blues had played all season and is delighted with the points tally that see's them top the table 13 games into the campaign.

"To have 30 points from 13 games is a tremendous performance," he added.

"I'm delighted that we have made such a great start to the season. It is certainly better to have the points on board instead of having to play catch-up later in the season.

"It was a very good performance following on from our midweek success.

"We took it a step further against Wednesday and you could see the confidence in the players.

"The first half was the best I have seen from us.

"Apart from the equalising goal we were generally well in control."
